Love, The Grandest Of Them All Part Three Of Three

We must allow God’s love and power to be effective through us to bless somebody else. I count it a great privilege to serve God and to be part of what He is doing around the world today. In John 14:23, Jesus said that if we truly love Him and His Father that sent Him, we would keep His Words. That includes, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” If we love Jesus, we ought to lay down our lives for others (John 10:17; 1 John 3:16).
In spite of the good programs our churches and ministries have (the powerful preaching, teaching and other endeavors to advance the Kingdom of God), without true love for the lost, the world would go unreached with the Gospel.
Compassion: The Master Key
The other translation for “compassion” is raham, which means “to love deeply,” and thus be compassionate or to have mercy. In the New Testament the Greek words oiktirmos, splanchinzornai, and eleos communicate a sense of pity and compassion.
God is calling you and me to have compassion for others. This call is more than an appeal for us to feel pity for the needy. It is a call to care enough to become involved and help by taking some action that will set others’ lives on a fresh course. The Bible says that Jesus had compassion on multitudes. In other words, He had a love that moved and took action.
And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. (Matthew 14:14)
I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. (Mark 8:2)
When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. (Luke 7:13-15)
There are many examples of compassion written in the Scriptures. We must learn from them. It is time we got balanced. Now is the time to begin walking the walk instead of talking without deeds.
Compassion was an inherent power burning in the heart of Jesus and His disciples. I believe that compassion contributed to the successful fulfillment of their assignments. I also believe that it will be the thing that will contribute to the successful fulfillment of yours.
I have met many people who cannot hold the tears back as they share their vision with me. It is the compassion that fires up their zeal to see India saved. Giving up their comfort zones to go and feed the helpless, starving, war-devastated folks in the Nubian mountains of Sudan requires sacrificial love. The common denominator in these people’s lives is the tremendous compassion they possess for the people group or area where they are called to minister.
Beloved, if you are trying to work God’s works but have no compassion for those you minister to, you either need to ask the Holy Spirit to shed God’s compassion abroad in your heart again or seek Him to direct you to what you are supposed to be doing.
We need to ask God to fill our hearts with His compassion to be the noble vessels that He always desires us to be. Accordingly, the world will unquestionably behold Jesus through our lives, churches and ministries.
